A gerotor pump provides a low noise, smooth, reliable solution to many hydraulic and lubrication systems.
Most commercially available gerotor packages use the equidistant epitrochoid curve as the basis of geometrical design. The Rotor Design Solutions software offers a different solution with the equidistant hypotrochoid curve.
The epitrochoid curve has a mismatch in geometry for the outer and inner rotors that leads to a volume of fluid being constantly recirculated rather than discharged. This volume is called carryover. As can be seen in the picture above, the hypotrochoid curve allows the inner and outer rotors to have matching geometry so the rotors may be designed with virtually zero carryover.
